What is the RCDI qualification?

The Rock Climbing Development Instructor qualification is perfect for experienced rock climbers who are passionate about teaching and developing other climbers.

It's certainly not an easy qualification, but...you'll gain a wealth of experience throughout the process, be able to deliver an awesome range of skills and experiences for your clientelle,  and go on to be an outstanding development instructor.

The RCDI focuses on teaching leading and developing climbers on sport and trad climbs. Check out the Mountain Training RCDI page below for all the info on pre-course requirements, consolidation, and syllabus elements.

Why do your RCDI in the Lakes?

We combine the expertise, training and assessing experience, and high level coaching skills of Esther Foster and Stu Carter from Climb 365 to form a really strong delivery team.

Add in an area with a brilliant variety of rock types, trad and sport venues...and we think we're on to a winner!

Check out my blog below for more details on choosing to do your RCDI in the Lake District.

What to expect on our RCDI courses?

Small ratios, professional delivery, a supportive and inclusive group atmosphere, and individualised feedback.

The RCDI training course costs £400 and is 4 days long. We use a variety of crags in the north and south lakes, and on the outskirts of the national park. This means we can use a variety of rock types, and choose the best crags for the weather. We'll lift share wherever possible, and choose meeting locations to minimise driving times.

You must be registered for the RCDI qualification with Mountain Training, and meet the pre-course requirements before attending.

RCDI assessments coming to the Lakes in 2025!
